Hi, this is my first post to this forum and my first real problem with this machine (255 G7 Notebook - AMD) I'm encountering a persistent problem with USB3 drives. Unfortunately I didn't find any mentioning of this problem on the internet.
How to reproduce the problem:
1, Connect a USB drive to one of the 2 USB3 ports on the left hand side of the machine.
2, Then connect a second USB drive to the other USB3 port on the left hand side of the machine.
Symptom: The device on the first USB3 port disconnects and reconnects when the 2. device connects. This is a problem if there is a running process on drive 1 which may not be interrupted. I played around with drive letters and with assigments to NTFS folders - to no avail. Can you reproduce the problem or propose a solution?
My system: Windows 10 (64) 22H2 with current updates, BIOS update and USB drivers from 1/2024,
Regards

By trial and error I found out that automatic disconnecting and reconnecting of an existing connection to one drive if another drive is connected probably depends on the second (new) drive's USB chip. If I connect a FANTEC enclosure to the second USB port, the first drive (Toshiba Canvio) is not reconnected while when I connect a ORICO enclosure to the second USB port, the first drive is reconnected.
Thus it's probably neither the fault of HP nor of AMD nor of Windows but the fault of the specific external disk/enclosure.
Thank you
O
