I have a HP 17-cn1053cl It was made without a network cable socket - so I bought a USB to network cable adapter. I have Spectrum at about 300 mbs and an ASUS router that will deliver that and more. But when I checked the speed using the USB adapter it was actually slower than my wireless connection. Is that what I should expect or do I need to adjust a setting?

Hi!
Welcome to the forum.
You did not specify which specific USB to network cable adapter that you are using. They are not all created equally.
You also did not state which type of USB port you are using with your adapter.
You would probably experience higher bandwidth using a USB Type-C to rj45 gigabit ethernet network adapter while plugged into your laptop's fastest USB Type-C port. You do have one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C (supports data transfer) and that is the one you should use.

10/100 is definitely not Gigabit.
I take it that you did not open the hyperlink that I provided.
