Can i know what is our function of the USB type C port?

I saw it written data transfer. Can i verify this mean it send out or only receive?

It dont charge laptop with the port right? i tried plug in a lenovo type c charger to the port and ntg happen.

I tried with my phone charger as well it dont work.

So my question as below ,

  1. if for data transfer, i plug in laptop A with USB , and connect the type C to my laptop, so the data will go from my laptop to laptop A? or from laptop A to my laptop? Or it dont happen?
  2. If i buy a usb type C hub, then plug the type C to my laptop, then put my wireless mouse usb, wirelesskeyboard , pendrive/external hdd will all this work?

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

You Notebook has the USB Type-C Gen 1 which allows faster Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s

You cannot transfer data directly from one notebook to another just by connecting it through the USB .You might have to use 3rd party softwares which as not HP recommend or certified. By connecting the other Notebook through USB, your Notebook will not detect the other Notebook's drive as an external usable drive where you can transfer data back and forth

Regarding the USB Type -C Hub, please refer to this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04723006

Thank you

hi @KrazyToad how about my 2nd question?

Meaning this laptop do not support my first question, and also charging my laptop using type C right?

It only support data transfer like input type C usb hub, and type C media projection (to send screen data to projector). am i right?

@ek

Yes it only supports data transfer and you cannot use it to charge the laptop

Also you cannot use the USB Type C port to connect external monitors or display. You need a USB Type-C Thunderbolt for that

This Notebook only has the USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s) Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c05872558
