My PC is out of warranty. I am trying to upgrade the processor from i3-470 to an i7-4790S which is listed on the HP Support site as a approved upgrade. I installed the processor and the system did not boot. I had no video, no POST beeps, nothing. I put the original processor back in and it booted normally. My BIOS is A0.09. I think I have to update the BIOS but HP doesn't have a newer one listed. It also says "We were unable to retrieve the list of drivers for your product. Please select the desired operating system and select “Update” to try again". I have Windows 10 Home 64 bit installed which is the OS that came with the PC.
Several questions.
1. What do I have to do to get the i7 processor to work?
2. Why doesn't the HP Support site recognize the factory installed OS?
3. Is there a newer BIOS and where can I get it?

Hi:
There are 6 BIOS updates on the support page, but you have to know which BIOS family your PC has.
If you are having a problem accessing the support page let me know which BIOS update out of the 6 listed that is the right one for your PC, and I will post the direct link to it.
That is the only question out of the 3 you asked that I can answer.

OK, so you need this one...
HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B2C)
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp87501-88000/sp87681.exe
Hopefully, that will allow the upgraded processor to work, although I don't know why it didn't work in the first place.
