I cannot run Windows 10 on this specific laptop model, because it has only 4 gb RAM, my mouse freezes and the laptop comes to a complete halt with the HDD compensating (but to no good at all) the missing RAM memory, by going into 100% usage. The only way to shut down the laptop is by the power button. Until I get it upgraded to 16 GB. Until then, I installed Windows 8.1 64 bit on it.

It works super fast, like a charm. The only problem is that the dedicated Nvidia graphic card GeForce MX110 is not supported by this windows 8.1. The graphic card is not installed either by running a complete Windows Update, nor by HP Assistance (it's not even running, it says "not compatible with the current operating system"), nor by downloading the driver from Nvidia website, nor by trying to install Geforce Experience (it stops the installation by saying the same as HP Assistance: Error, the operating system is not compatible). I can't go into Advanced Bios Setup because it doesn't have an Advanced Bios Setup, only basic bios.

Therefore, I run only by using the integrated Intel graphic card from the mainboard. This way, I cannot change the screen luminosity at all, it's very annoying.

HINT: my laptop came with a paper inside the box, saying: "This product is not compatible with Windows 7 or 8, 8.1". It came to my knowledge only after buying it and read it from that paper. It wasn't specified on seller website, nor HP's website, what a real shame on you guys.

So, any ideas to make the Geforce MX110 work on windows 8? Is there a possibility of editing the bios or unlock it for other 64 bit based operating systems? I find it very stupid being compatible with only Windows 10.

Anyway, I went to Nvidia webpage and downloaded a driver for my graphic card MX110 for windows 8.1 for laptops. I get the same error message. Conclusion: I truly believe the problem comes from the Kaby Lake i3 Intel processor that is blocking the "compatibility", not the operating system itself, if you all agree. Or from the motherboard. The real issue is with the i3 Intel processor or the motherboard. My motherboard is HP PAVILION 15-DA SERIES i3-7100U LAPTOP MOTHERBOARD P/N L35239-601 (MB83)

The motherboard is blocking some of Windows Updates, is blocking the installation of dedicated video card GeForce MX110 and is blocking the update for the integrated video card from Intel.

Could a driver update for motherboard fix this ugly issue?

This is really a repeat of the other post, which was answered pretty well by @banhien . Intel 7th gen processor will only support Windows 7 and 8/8.1 with heroic effort. As stated, you bought a FreeDOS machine and HP does not support Windows installation other than to provide driver downloads for a compatible OS: in this case Windows 10. You should not be seeing a performance difference between Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 such as you seem to believe. They take pretty much the same resources. So its not the HP BIOS or the motherboard causing you problems its the processor. Intel and Microsoft have collaborated to make it as hard as possible for you to run anything less than Windows 10. So do not blame HP. 

Here is some reading to get you started on the needed heroic effort if you insist on running Windows 8/8.1. Frankly I would use Windows 7 before I ran either one of those:

Thank you for your fast and comprehensive response! It opened new horizons for installing the Windows 7 on HP 15-da0043nq. I will follow the steps in order to install Windows 7.

Meanwhile, I've done some intensive research and solved all my problems. I will post another reply with the solution.

STEPS FOR INSTALLING INCOMPATIBLE INTEGRATED AND DEDICATED GRAPHIC CARDS (video cards) FOR KABY LAKE I3 7TH GENERATION

ON WINDOWS 8.1 64 bit

ALSO, SOLVES THE FOLLOWING:

~ HOW TO ADJUST SCREEN BRIGHTNESS IN WINDOWS 8.1 ~

~ BRIGHTNESS KEYS NOT WORKING ON HP LAPTOP ~

HP LAPTOP MODEL 15-DA0043NQ with:

^^ INTEL HD GRAPHICS 620 with 1 GB RAM, integrated video card (helps you change luminosity display in windows 8.1 and screen resolution)

^^ nVidia GeForce MX110 with 2 GB RAM, dedicated video card (games, graphic design softwares, etc)

ADVICE: don't worry, it's very easy, you just need to follow the steps. Anyone can do it for this HP model.

Short list of actions, in order (for details, see downward sections):

1) Run and install windows updates from Windows Update Center in Device Manager (around 5 gb in year 2020, it takes around 12 hours to download and install). Without them, any attempt to install the dedicated video card drivers (nvidia geforce) will result in error messages and cancelation of setup.

2) Download the EXACT drivers as I note here for nVidia GeForce (other won't work, maybe in time others will, but from what I've already tested in 2020, these are the only one that will work installing for windows 8.1 64 bit): 441.66-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql , run the Setup and the drivers for NVIDIA are all done & running.

3) For emergency case: if step 2, for some reason, doesn't work, try the guide from this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXr6FUicy8E

4) Next, we need to install the integrated video card (intel hd graphics 620). Download the exact drivers as I note here for INTEL HD GRAPHICS 620: 154519.4678 or win64_154519.4678. BE CAREFUL to download ZIP archive in order to get the files. If you download the EXE version, it won't run because of the incompatibility. I found the drivers on Guru3d.com. Intel and HP deleted them, shame on them. Or maybe I don't know where to find the archives on HP & Intel websites, shame on me. But still, shame on them though.

Extract the ZIP archive for win64_154519.4678. Identify your intel graphic card Hardware Ids from Device Manager. Modify the igdlh64.inf from the extracted win64_154519.4678 drivers.

6) Disable driver Signature Verification (Signed Driver Enforcement) https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/disabling-driver-signature-on-windows-8

7) After restarting the laptop, install manually the INTEL HD GRAPHICS 620 drivers either by running setup or from device manager with option Have Disk (if running Setup will fail to initialize). A red message will appear because the signatures are disabled, choose Install anyway. Finished.

DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Install windows updates from Windows Update Center in Device Manager (around 5 gb in year 2020, it takes around 12 hours to download and install).

In order to install some drivers on any hardware, Windows needs some security updates. This step is also needed for our example. While searching for updates, the Update window will show 0% progress for about an hour. Don't close the laptop, don't reboot it, it's just working slow. Remember to plug the laptop to power source. After downloading the necesary updates, install them from the same window. Some updates will install fast, others will take hours.

The total update will be made in 2 steps, meaning you need to run the Update Windows once for about 1 GB update for the first step, install them, restart the laptop and then run Update Windows again for the second step of 4 GB updates or whatever size it will show up.

After downloading and installing all the updates, restart the computer.

2) Download the exact drivers as I note here for nVidia GeForce MX110 (other won't work, maybe in time others will, but from what I've already tested in 2020, these are the only one that will work installing) 441.66-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql and run the Setup.

You can download them easily from https://www.driverscloud.com/en/services/GetInformationDriver/73565-101852/nvidia-44166-quadro-deskt... or from softpedia https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GRAPHICS-BOARD/NVIDIA/NVIDIA-GeForce-Notebook-Graphics-Driver-441-... as shown in the screenshot.

Or you cand search on google for "441.66-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql" but be careful to download the exact 441.66 version for windows 8.1 64 bits.

After the instalation is complete, restart the laptop.

Steps from the video:

Go to Device Manager - Display Adapters - Right click on NVIDIA Geforce - Properties - Details - Hardware Ids - Copy the top Value (right click and copy) in form of: "PCI\VEN...." for example: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_174E&REV_A2

HINT: in case the dedicated video card isn't shown under the Display adapter but rather under the Other devices like "Unsuported 3d controller", follow the exact path from above by right clicking on "Unsuported 3d controller" and identify the manufacturer (in case you don't know what video card you have) from the first digits following the "VEN_" for example "PCI

\VEN_10DE..." and search the "10DE" in this list https://pci-ids.ucw.cz/read/PC?restrict=1

DON'T FORGET to change the Vectors from "0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,a,b,c,d,e,f,all" from above in order to find your digits.

Now you know that your video card manufacturer is NVIDIA and therefore you should search NVIDIA Geforce drivers for your video card.

Vendor ID for NVIDIA is 10DE - search drivers for Nvidia
Vendor ID for AMD Radeon is 1DA2 - search drivers for Radeon
And so on...

The next steps that are needed can be seen in the video, but they could differ from situation to situation. In the case of HP 15-DA0043NQ kaby lake i3 7th generation with geforce mx110, step 3 wasn't neede for me, it went all good in step 2, therefore you can jump to step 4 after step 2.

4) Download the exact drivers as I note here for INTEL HD GRAPHICS 620: 154519.4678 or win64_154519.4678. BE CAREFUL to download ZIP archive in order to get the files. If you download the EXE version, it won't run because of the incompatibility. I found the drivers on Guru3d.com, I couldn't find them anywhere else. Extract the ZIP archive for win64_154519.4678. Go to the destination folder, where the files are now extracted, and search for igdlh64.inf, right click on it and open with Notepad.

Identify your intel graphic card Hardware Ids from Device Manager.

Go to Device Manager - Display Adapters - Right click on any name of the display adapter, other than NVIDIA, it should be Intel in the case of HP-15da0043nq, select Properties - Details - Hardware Ids - Copy the "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_5916&CC_0300". As you cand see, the DEV number is DEV_5916.

Search for DEV_5916 in the igdlh64.inf opened with notepad.

It will show up under the "w10" Windows 10 section. Go under the section "Windows 8.1" it is just up above, and add at the end of the list this line %iKBLULTGT2% = iSKLD_w81, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_5916

It should look like:

Save and exit.

6) Disable driver Signature Verification (Signed Driver Enforcement) https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/disabling-driver-signature-on-windows-8

Press "windows key" + "C" on your keyboard and select Settings from the right screen bar.
Select Change PC settings from the bottom.
Go to Update and Recovery.
Select Recovery and under "Advanced startup" press Restart button.
After restarting, it will prompt a window menu with some options, among them is "Disable driver signature enforcement". Press the keyboard number assigned to this option and Windows will start.

7) After restarting the laptop, install the INTEL HD GRAPHICS 620 drivers either by running Setup or from device manager with option Have Disk (if running Setup will fail to initialize). A red message will appear because the signatures are disabled, choose Install anyway.

Have Disk from extracted files, Graphics and select igdlh.

During the installation, the screen luminosity will brighten up. Now you can adjust the screen brightness from your F2 and F3 keyboards. Success!
