Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-d1 (53F51AV)

Hello,
I have HP Victus 16 d1015nt. It comes with 16GB (8+8) RAM as stock. I decided to upgrade as a result of poor performance and insufficient memory. I went to a local technology store in Turkey and bought "Crucial 16GB 4800MHz CL40" memory. The system was booted 1 minute late in the first boot (after boot and BIOS management), no problems until here.
After 10 minutes, while doing a game test, first the game, then the system completely froze - locked. I started doing memory tests with the MemTest86 (USB Bootable) application. The result was not surprising:

After these errors, I tested again, the result was again not surprising:

Based on my previous experience, I have come to the conclusion that the memory may be corrupted. I returned the product to the store where I bought it. Right after, I went to another store and bought the memory "Crucial 16GB 4800MHz CL40" with the same features. Again I ran the MemTest86 test and there were no errors. I made it!? No... Although there were no errors, the game I played yesterday was closed 4-5 times. At first I thought the problem was in the game, but it wasn't. My system completely froze 3 times while the game was open - it crashed. Thinking it might be due to overheating, I turned the fans up to maximum from the OMEN Gaming Hub interface. Just saying problem solved, I got a blue screen this morning: "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT". Thinking that the combination of 16GB + 8GB (it shouldn't be a problem under normal conditions) and different brands may cause problems, I bought another memory card of the same model, "Crucial 16GB 4800MHz CL40". After installing it on my device, the system booted normally. I ran the MemTest86 test right after, and the result was still not surprising:

Please pay attention to the "memory" part. You can see it's 32GB. There was a momentary blackout (1 frame) while the test was in progress. Then MemTest86 completely froze - crashed. This also happened in the case of the "system crash" that I just described. I thought potentially the 2nd memory might be corrupt as well. I returned the memory today and purchased the same product from another store, "Crucial 16GB 4800MHz CL40". I asked the store employees and wanted to try the product before purchasing it:

The device was not connected to the outlet and did not give any errors! I definitely succeeded this time!? No:

Let's get to the summary. After 4 days, 4 memory swaps and tests, the memory is full of errors. Especially HP employees; I'm asking for help from the entire community. Please help me.

WARNING! The model of my device is "16 d1015nt". While searching for the compatible memory list on the Crucial website, I could not find this model. The closest to this model was "16 d1014nt". This is the recommended memory for this model and most "16" models:

Hi @OrhanARI,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

Excellent description and a great diagnosis. It is greatly appreciated.

This might require one-on-one interaction to fix the issue.

New update:

Nothing has changed! What did I do during this time?

  • Contacted HP authorized service. After more than 1 hour of "Windows" checks, it was stated that there was no problem.
  • Contacted HP authorized service again. I persistently asked them for the brand and model information of the factory 32GB memory with an i5-12500H (or similar) processor. HP OFFICIALS SUGGESTED THAT THEY CANNOT HELP IF THERE IS NO SERIAL NUMBER. I DON'T EVEN HAVE A DEVICE SUCH!
  • I did not give up! By visiting the local second-hand advertising website in Turkey; I listed ads using "i5-12500H processor and 32GB RAM". There were 4 ads and I talked to 2 ads. They also stated that they experienced similar problems. Some of them mentioned that they use Crucial brand memory, some Kingston brand and still some Corsair brand memory. This again did not solve my problem. Because I already have the memories I bought, and who would pay for their financial losses?
  • I talked to the local tech store where I bought the memories. The memories have been sent to the service and a refund will be issued based on their response.
  • I didn't give up again! We contacted Crucial directly and had an e-mail interview with 4 titles. In the first response, they stated that there may be a "BIOS" problem, that there may have been a problem during installation. I told them that I was using an up-to-date BIOS version and there was no problem during the installation. In the next e-mail, they told me to return the product. When I stated that I bought it from a local store, they said that they could not interfere with 3rd party sales (in short, no matter what you do).
  • One more check! I visited Kingston's website and looked at the compatible memory list for my device. They didn't recommend unnecessary high MHz like Crucial (which is what it should be). Then a note at the bottom caught my attention: "MODULES MUST BE ORDERED AND INSTALLED IN PAIRS for Dual Channel mode.". I reported this situation to Crucial and they stated that using them separately would not be a problem.

I looked for memories on the local second-hand classifieds website I just mentioned. A user put his old memory up for sale after upgrading his 32GB device to 64GB. I will test it with the remaining 32GB (2x16GB) Samsung memory from his device.

It will probably work. I will reply in 2 days.

Hi @OrhanARI,

Glad to hear that you found an upgradable ram for your device.

However, if you still continue to have issues. The issue might require one-on-one interaction to fix it.

Dear HP Support Representatives,

Thank you for your responses and private communications, but I have already spoken to HP officials on the phone regarding this problem that I have been dealing with for 2 weeks. I have already done the steps in your answers. I called again today (I made a request to learn the RAM information of a device with 32GB installed). Frankly, I still didn't get an answer. I received a response about sending the product to service and testing the memories together (he said that they do not have such a service under normal circumstances and that they will do it to help).

As I said in my previous answer. I left the memory at the local tech store where I purchased it to request a return. The memories were sent to the service for control purposes.

I will be purchasing Samsung brand memories soon. I will let you know after I run the tests.

Respects.

Hi @OrhanARI,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing an unstable system state after upgrading the RAM in your HP Victus 16 laptop. RAM upgrades should generally improve system performance, but issues can arise if the new RAM module is incompatible, faulty, or not properly seated. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

  • Revert to the Original RAM Module: If you still have the original RAM module, try putting it back into the laptop to see if the instability goes away. This will help determine if the issue is related to the new RAM module.
  • Check RAM Compatibility: Make sure that the new RAM module is compatible with your HP Victus 16. Check the laptop's specifications and compare them with the specifications of the new RAM module, including type, speed, and capacity.
  • Reseat the New RAM: Ensure that the new RAM module is properly seated in its slot. Sometimes, a loose or improperly inserted module can cause instability. Turn off the laptop, unplug it, and then reseat the RAM module carefully.
  • Test Each RAM Module: If you have installed multiple RAM modules, try testing them individually in different slots to identify if one of them is faulty. This will help pinpoint the problematic module.
  • Update BIOS: Check if there is a BIOS update available for your HP Victus 16 laptop. Sometimes, BIOS updates include improvements for RAM compatibility and stability.
  • Run Memory Diagnostics: Windows has built-in memory diagnostics tools. To use them, type "Windows Memory Diagnostic" into the Windows search bar, and follow the on-screen instructions to check for memory problems.
  • Check for Overheating: Overheating can cause system instability. Ensure that your laptop is adequately cooled, and there is no excessive dust blocking the ventilation.
  • Check for Software Issues: Sometimes, software conflicts or driver issues can cause system instability. Ensure that your operating system and drivers are up to date.

It's important to proceed carefully when troubleshooting hardware issues, especially when dealing with components like RAM.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
