Pavilion 15-e047sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, my Pavilion 15-e047sa laptop came pre-installed with Win8 (now is Win10 - 21H1).  The only BIOS I can see is for Win8 on HP website.  BIOS I have currently is Insyde F.15 12/11/2013.  The BIOS update I can see for Win8 is F.28 Rev. A 23/03/2017.  Is it okay to update to the 2017 BIOS revision even though I have Win10 now installed, even though the revision comes up for Win8 - does this matter.  Thanks in advance.

Hi:

Unfortunately, no one here will be able to let you know if updating the BIOS when running an unsupported operating system is safe to for your model notebook.

Personally, I wouldn't do it.

If the notebook is running fine, there is no reason to update the BIOS.

If you feel compelled to update the BIOS, reinstall Windows 8.1, update the BIOS and then reinstall W10.

I looked at the release notes for all of the BIOS updates, and there is nothing there that I would risk turning my PC into an expensive paperweight for.

There is only one BIOS update that actually fixes a problem...F.21, and that seems to be for a specific application.

- Fixes an intermittent issue which causes the playback of high definition (HD) video using the Metro Video application to be slower than expected.

If you would like to update the BIOS using W8.1, I can give you a free way to reinstall W8.1.

Just let me know.

Thanks for replying, thanks for your info regarding BIOS.  I'll just leave the BIOS alone for now, just wondering.

You're very welcome.

Hi, I have until 2025 lol to get another machine.  As this laptop is not TPM enabled whatsoever - had it for a few years anyway.

Cheers,
