Hello,

when I try to update Win 11 from 23H2 to 24H2 (or 25H2) I always get Error 0xC1900101 - 0x40017, installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase. 23H2 is uptodate and also the drivers are uptodate. Any solution ?

Many thanks

This error is commonly linked to a driver issue. Try unplugging all external devices and temporarily disabling any third-party antivirus. Make sure your BIOS and chipset drivers are updated from the manufacturer’s website. You can also try upgrading using the Media Creation Tool or an ISO instead of Windows Update. If it still fails, checking the setup logs can help identify the problematic driver.

I tried all that , no success. How can I check the setup logs ?

HP Recommended

Update by running setup.exe from the Windows ISO, I did it that way and it worked.

Thanks for your reply. I tried this before but update still failed.

Check the log here:

C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log  dan  setupact.log

Or in:

C:\Windows\Logs

To find out the cause of the error related to the driver or hardware.

Many thanks Banlix. I downloaded setupact.log and setuperr.log but they are like Chinese for me.
