There is a lot of confusing information about updating my HP Pavilion 17-g134ds WLAN Wifi Card. Looking at the manual it shows my choice of upgrade since this is an AMD computer and no Intel is inside is;
Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 M.2 Combo Adapter 792608-005
First I want to know if this will give me a 5MHz signal.
Next I need to know if I should concentrate on the HP number 792608-005 when purchasing the WiFi card because there is a different Broadcom numbers associated with the HP number. There is BCM943142YHN - 792608-005. If I search for the BCM43142 then I get a different HP number - 753076-001. I see that there is a physical difference between the two cards. The Broadcom BCM43142 has 2 connector legs and the HP number 79608-005 has 3 connector legs. I have not had the balls to open the computer yet so I do not know what the connector will look like. On this laptop they have made it super difficult to make upgrades and the whole back has to come off and the MB has to be removed to even up grade the RAM.
Does anyone know what the WiFi card configuration will look like for the 17-g134ds?
Does anyone know if there will be two antennas when I open this up because there is no bluetooth at this time. I assume one antenna is for bluetooth and one is for WiFi. Of course I could be wrong, I am just guessing.
Any help would be appreciated. I want to upgrade the WiFi to 5MHz and add Bluetooth while I am attempting to add 8GB of memory. The computer will be open and those are the only upgrades I can think of. This is a one time deal for me unless in the future I decide to upgrade the HD to 2T and I don't destroy my computer when I do this upgrade.
Thank you in advance to anyone who may be able to help me.

You're very welcome.
I doubt you will get very good reception by just running an antenna in the lower section of the notebook.
It may be better than nothing, but it may not be good enough for the card to work properly.
Unfortunately, I don't see any Broadcom AC M.2 form factor cards for HP.
There are a few out there, but they all are listed for other brand notebooks.
They might work in your model, and they might not.

Hi:
The Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 M.2 Combo Adapter is only a single band wlan card -- 2.4 GHz band only.
Any time you see a wireless N card with a suffix ending in b/g/n, that means it is a single band (2.4 Ghz) card.
Dual band wireless N cards have suffixes that end in a/b/g/n or a/g/n. (the 'a' denotes the 5.0 GHz wlreless frequency).
You are going to have to open up the PC and check to see:
1. What the form factor of the current wlan card is (HMC or M.2).
2. Whether or not there are two antennas present.
On dual band cards, you need two antennas for both frequencies to get the best reception for both the wireless and bluetooth.
If your PC's current wlan card is the HMC form factor, and there are two antennas present, then you can get this Broadcom dual band AC card.
Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 combo | HP Part # 724935-001 |
Dual Band N:

Thank you for the information. My computer has one antenna and an M.2 Form Factor. I opened it up to upgrade my RAM and see what the inside looked like. Can I add an additional antenna inside the base of the laptop? I do not want to open the bezel around the screen. It is just not worth me breaking it with my big fingers. Is there any 5.0 Wifi with bluetooth WLAN cards made for this unit? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me in upgrading my laptop.
