I have a Spectre x360 15" laptop.  I had to update the operating system to Windows 11, and now it looks like I can't update BIOS and a number of drivers.  As a result, I'm unable to successfully replace the battery, and the facial recognition camera no longer works because a driver is no longer available.  Is there anything I can do?

Hi @schasey,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Spectre x360 15" laptop is missing BIOS and driver updates after upgrading to Windows 11, causing issues with battery replacement and facial recognition. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check HP Support Assistant for Updates
Open HP Support Assistant from the Start menu and select Updates.
If no updates appear, click Check for updates and messages to refresh the list — sometimes driver metadata takes longer to load after an OS upgrade.

Visit the HP Drivers and Software Page Manually
Go to support.hp.com → Software and Drivers → Laptop → Enter your exact model number (for example, Spectre x360 15-df1000).
If Windows 11 drivers aren’t listed, select Windows 10 (64-bit) instead — most HP Windows 10 drivers and BIOS updates are compatible with Windows 11.

Install BIOS from Windows 10 Category (if compatible)
Download the latest BIOS file (SoftPaq) listed for your model under Windows 10.
Run it as Administrator and follow on-screen instructions. HP BIOS packages are OS-independent as long as the platform matches.

Update Drivers Manually
Download and install the Intel Chipset, Management Engine, and Graphics drivers from the Windows 10 section.
These drivers restore proper system control, power management, and facial recognition compatibility.

Enable Windows Hello (Facial Recognition)
After updating the camera driver (typically “Intel RealSense” or “HP IR Camera”), go to Settings → Accounts → Sign-in Options → Face Recognition (Windows Hello).
Re-set up the facial recognition profile.

Perform Windows Update Scan
Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
Windows 11 often installs any remaining compatible drivers automatically once HP firmware and chipset are updated.

I hope this helps.
