HP 89d8 Motherboard

Hello,

I cannot enable TPM 2.0 for security reasons because I am stuck in AMD 3.92.0.5. According to the troubleshooter, I need to be 3.92.5.5.  I updated the BIOS on my motherboard hoping to solve the problem, but it did not.  I cannot find the motherboard in device manager to search for updates, but I doubt that would solve the problem since I updated the BIOS already.  AMD is saying I need to do a firmware update on my HP motherboard.

Any help would be appreciated.

@OberynRedViper, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding TPM 2.0!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I know how frustrating it feels when you’ve updated the BIOS expecting TPM 2.0 to just fall into place, but it’s still sitting stubbornly at 3.92.0.5 instead of 3.92.5.5. Let’s walk through this together:

A couple of things to check/try:

Confirm TPM visibility:

Press Win + R, type tpm.msc, and hit Enter.

See if the TPM Management window opens and what version/status it shows.

Run HP Support Assistant:

This tool will look beyond the BIOS and pull down any firmware-level updates (including TPM firmware) tied to your HP motherboard.

If you don’t have it, you can download HP Support Assistant and run updates.

Check your specific model’s driver page:

On the HP support site, enter your exact product number.

Look under Firmware or Security tabs for something like “Trusted Platform Module (TPM) Firmware Update Utility”.

Enable in BIOS if not already:

Restart > Tap Esc/F10 for BIOS setup.

Look under SecurityTPM Device or Security Device Support → Enable. Save & Exit.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello,

Thank you for the reply.  None of those suggestions worked, however. I have turned on the TPM, but it is still on 3.92.0.5.

Actually, I was unable to input the motherboard on the HP website, do you have a direct link to that page where I can put in the motherboard?  It is the HP 89D8 Motherboard.  From everything I have learned so far, that specific motherboard needs an update to get past the 3.92.0.5. Maybe you can run this up the flagpole to get that update in the works? Because unfortunately this is the bottleneck that won't allow me to use to my microphone, and I assume this is a security risk as well?

Thank you.

@OberynRedViper, thanks for circling back with more details — I hear the frustration in your words. You did the right thing updating the BIOS, but since TPM is still frozen at 3.92.0.5, that tells us the missing piece is a firmware update specific to your HP 89D8 motherboard.

Here’s what you can try next:

Product-specific support page

Instead of searching by motherboard, use your full HP product number or serial number on the HP Support site.

That’ll pull up the exact drivers and firmware tied to your system. Look under Firmware / Security for something like “TPM Firmware Update Utility.”

HP Support Assistant

If you haven’t already, grab HP Support Assistant. It digs deeper than BIOS updates and often pulls the TPM firmware that doesn’t appear in Windows Update.

BIOS double-check

Restart, tap Esc/F10 → under Security make sure TPM/ Security Device Support is enabled. Sometimes it looks like it’s “on,” but switching it off → save → on again → save forces the system to refresh the state.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Do you not have a direct link to the TPM Firmware Update Utility? I have run the HP support Assistant and updated everything and triple checked the BIOS to make sure it's enabled. I've queried the computer to give me all the information I can on the motherboard, all it gives me is HP 89D8 motherboard. Can you find that information? The HP website is a mess and I can't find anything outside of software, the only thing it searches is products HP sells.

Thank you

@hazqard, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query.

Hello! I’m happy to assist with this issue. It sounds like you're having trouble enabling TPM 2.0 with the BIOS version 3.92.0.5.

Could you provide a bit more detail on what exactly is happening with the TPM? Are you seeing any specific errors or messages related to TPM in the BIOS or operating system? Also, have you checked the official HP website for any newer BIOS updates or firmware for your system?

Let me know, and we’ll figure this out!

Take care and have a good day.
