Hi Huffer

I apologise for replying you so late.

First of all, thx for your latest reply!

I did several tests, yesterday, by installing each of the 2 new 2GB modules in the different  slots, and by repeating tests with the original 1GB modules I still have.

The outcome, in a nutshell is: I did find a specific 2 GB module, if inserted in the slot closer to the cover, prevents the laptop to start, whilst, if inserted in the most inner slot, no issues are and the laptop starts correctly. So, this odd behaviour seems showing such a module could be flawed indeed, what do you think about ?

Then, I would be oriented to return the 2 GB modules Amazon. Given that the original 1 GB modules are tagged as "1GB 2Rx8 PC2 5300S-555-12-E3", and should I decide, in spite of all difficulties, to upgrade my laptop to 4 GB, what 2GB ram module type should I look for [that "555" is the ram frequency?] ?

Many many thanks again, for your gentle support!

Yes you have proven its a bad module. 5300 is the "speed" of the memory. Memory is a little technical but there are two ways to express memory speed. PC2-5300 is the same as DDR2-667. I think you could safely order a replacement of the bad Komputerbay DDR2-800. As I said it usually will downclock. I think its a case of a defective module not an imcompatible one. A good one would be fine. If you don't want to do that order 2 x 2 of DDR2-667 SO-DIMM
