Hi:

Since notebook processors are integral parts of the motherboard, you can look up the PCIe generation by going to the AMD or Intel site and look up your processor specs.

Your notebook has an Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 processor.

Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 Processor

If you look under the Expansion Options section on the above link, you will see that the processor itself is PCIe Gen 4, but the chipset/PCH PCIe connectivity is only Gen 3.

That means a PCIe Gen 4 SSD will not run at its maximum advertised speed in a PCIe Gen 3 NVMe slot.

Hi paul

Thank you so much for your answer but can you please check this article as per this Gen11 processor are supported to PCIe 4 gen, article below .  and in datasheet it is written that its is supported.

You're very welcome.

You can try a PCIe Gen 4 SSD in the slot, but I am 99% sure it will only run at the Gen 3 speed.

No.

Paul_Tikkanen EXPERT Level 21 is 100% correct. Your mobo won't run Gen 4.0 speeds.

Please read this discussion: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/M-2-slot/m-p/8560073

Very very very few 11th Gen HPs had Gen4.0, and they were advertised (as such) plenty. Sucks (I know)!

Do you have any document to support your argument?

HP Recommended

Document? No.

Just about 1000 laptop users wondering why HP didn't let their TigerLakes run free. Actually, there were some 12th gen AlderLakes as well...

You can run HWiNFO as suggested in above link and make sure.... Unfortunately Paul speaks the truth.

Hi, @hasnain_AWS

I've already given you the document that supports my opinion, and I rest my case.

Chipset / PCH PCIe Revision Gen 3

The documentation you have provided refers to the Intel desktop processors which are not integral parts of the motherboard, and those motherboard chipsets would indeed support PCIe Gen 4 SSD's.
