Elitebook 8760w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi and thanks for the help beforehand it's much appreciated.

I've just bought myself a Elitebook 8760w and I'd like to know what the maximum upgrade for the processor is?  I've used AMD systems Al my life so I'm not familiar with Intel configurations and socket types at all.

Also what is the best Graphics card I can put in it and the screen I have is currently the HD+ 1600x1200.  Can I apply swap it for the FHD replacements I've seen on eBay?

Thanks 😁

Here's the Service Manual which is a must have on these mobile workstations if you plan to upgrade. Yes a FHD Dreamcolor panel is an option and there is but one video cable so your laptop would accept an FHD screen as a drop-in upgrade.

Manual

Screen options listed on p. 27. Top compatible processor is i7-2920XM, 2.5 GHz (turbo up to 3.5 GHz) quad-core extreme processor, 8 MB L3 cache, 8 threads, 55W 657850-001

But, dual and quad core processors use a different motherboard so if you have a dual core now you cannot install a Quad.

In that case this is the best option:

i7-2620M, 2.7 GHz (turbo up to 3.4 GHz) dual-core processor, 4 MB L3 cache, 4 threads, 35W 657844-001

Top MXM video card is NVIDIA Quadro 5010M, N12E-Q5 4 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory 647179-001

And if you have an AMD video card now, to go to an nVidia you need a different heatsink. MXM video cards are not as interchangeable as desktop video cards. If you want to try to install anything not listed in the Manual its a crapshoot at best.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.
