HP 255 G6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello !

I have some questions about an upgrading of a HP 255 G6  I want to upgrade the existing DDR4  4GB 1866MHZ /PC4-14900.

1.Can I change to 2  DDR4 8GB so the max will be 16GB on both sockets. What is the max ?

2.Does the frequency on the DDR4 from 1866MHZ to the new 2400MHZ matter?

Thanks

Sincerely

The upgrades listed are compatible.

Be sure to remember that 8 GB is the maximum supported.

The most economically practical means would be to purchase the 8GB memory module.

Remove the installed 4GB module and put the upgrade module in its place.  Reinstalling the original module in the other slot would be pointless and likely lead to a no-boot scenario or one where only one module is recognized by the BIOS.

The guaranteed compatible Crucial M.2 500 GB module would be a viable update as well.

No. That would be unlikely to work.

The maximum supported installed memory for the notebook is 8GB

Thanks for the input- Are you sure it will not work with a change of DDR4 with a 2400MHZ instead of the original 1866MHZ? And if i change both RAM DDR4 to 2400MHz would that work?

From what i heard it would just run at the lower speed  if i change one of the DDR4!!

Thanks

Yes, I am certain.

If you install guaranteed compatible memory that has a higher bandwidth than 1866MHZ, the memory will still only operate at it's default bandwidth.

That is not something that you can change.

Remember that what you have is a mainstream notebook, not a gaming desktop.

I searched for an upgrade to HP 255 G6 and i got this information-

https://eu.crucial.com/eur/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/hp-255-g6#MEMORYFilters

So would this not be compliante to my HP 255 G6?

I want to change to a bigger SSD (500GB) as well, this one I have right now only has 128GB (M.2) SATA b6Gb/s HP value

Thanks

So I am currently having the same problem. I have HP 255 G6 laptop with 4GB of DDR4-1866 ram installed and I'm thinking about an upgrade, but I can't find any store offering this type of ram. So does ram listed on https://eu.crucial.com/eur/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/hp-255-g6#MEMORYFilters fit my computer and will there be any problems?

@vitopolak

You have the same notebook as the original author.

The memory at the link is guaranteed compatible with your notebook as well.

Slovenia is in the EU, so you can order directly from the Crucial website.

Thanks, I've been searching for RAM that fits my notebook for quite long, but now my only concern left is, can I add 8GB of RAM to my present 4GB to have 12 in total, or do 4GB fit only?

Thanks otherwise
