Your notebook has support for a 2.5-inch internal SSD • SATA 6.0Gb/s.

The SSD will be the replacement for your current HDD.

You can use HP's  recovery USB flash drive created by use of the HP Cloud recovery tutorial to install the operating system on the new SSD.

Thank you. I upgraded it (replaced the 1TB HD with 256GB SSD) and the laptop is fast as new. Do you have a recommendation for a network card as well? I believe the current one caps the wifi at 25mbps.

When you ask about a network card, do you mean an external (USB) wifi adapter?

If you meant a replacement for the M.2/PCIe  wifi adapter. there is this one. It is compatible with your notebook.
