Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I want to upgrade my HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba077tu SSHD (Hybrid SSD) to internal SATA SSD. Is it possible to do that? And Can I move the existing OS from Hybrid SSD to new SATA SSD?

Hi:

According to chapter 1 of the service manual, you have a couple of options...

Maintenance and Service Guide HP Pavilion x360 14m Convertible PCIMPORTANT! This document is intende...

1.  You can replace the existing 2.5" hybrid drive with a 2.5" SSD.  You would need to purchase a SATA to USB cable to clone (move) the existing drive's configuration to the new one.

2. You can buy a M.2 SATA SSD and clone the existing drive's configuration to the M.2 SATA SSD.

If you go with option 2, then you would need to remove Windows from the 2.5" drive, or the notebook would always want to boot from that drive first.

Then you can use the 2.5" drive for storage.

Yes it certainly can be done. Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

See p. 43 for "how to". You can replace the 2.5 inch SATA mechanical SSHD with a 2.5 inch SATA full on solid state drive. Many ways to put your OS onto the new drive. Clone, clean install, Windows system image, for example. The credentials for Windows 10 to activate are stored in the BIOS and a Microsoft server so a reinstall even onto a new storage drive will just automatically activate with no Key Code needed.

There is also an M.2 slot for SATA M.2 SSD but it is hard to reach on the backside of the motherboard. Still adding an M.2 SSD would mean you could keep the existing SSHD with its 1 TB storage.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

Thanks for the reply. But as I reached to HP support, they are telling me that the device only support 128GB internal SATA SSD. Can you please confirm it?

Hi:

The drive capacities are just what HP offered in the model series.

The Crucial memory/SSD report for your notebook indicates that you can install as much as a 4 TB 2.5" drive in your notebook.

I can't think of any reason why a M.2 SATA SSD capacity would be limited to only 128 GB.

Even chapter 1, page 2 of the service manual indicates you can install a 512 GB SATA M.2 SSD...

For use on all computer models:
● 512-GB, M.2 SATA solid-state drive with TLC
● 256-GB, M.2 SATA solid-state drive
● 128-GB, M.2 SATA solid-state drive

Does the series contains M2 Port? Yes.. I did the same crucial scan and I also get the advice to upgrade it to Internal SATA SSD for preformance boost.

I am very confused now. As purchasing internal SATA SSD cost me INR 8K. That is the big amount and I dont want to waste my money.

The service manual indicates that it comes with a M.2 slot that supports SATA SSD's.

I strongly recommend you read the manual on how to open the back cover and confirm that there is in fact a M.2 slot present before buying a M.2 SATA SSD.
