I wanted to upgrade my HP 2560P with an Intel Celeron B840 to an Intel Core i5-3320M. According to Intel the socket is the same: FCPGA988.
The BIOS is updated to F62, but when I place the new processor the laptop tries to boot and immediately shuts down. Then the laptop automatically tries to boot a second time and shuts down again.
I bought the i5-3320M second-hand, so there is the possibility I bought a broken one.
Is it possible to upgrade the 2560P with an i5-3320M? Is it compatible? Did I overlook something? Or is the processor just broken?

Not even in theory. You also have to consider the motherboard chipset, in your case QM67 Express. It only takes 2d gen processors and a couple oddball 3rd gens but not the i5-3320M.
The Forum is always available for this kind of inquiry before buying parts and breaking out the screwdriver set.

Best to get the Manual and study which processors HP has listed as compatible.
