HP Pavilion Notebook-15-ab522tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I wanted to upgrade my HP Pavilion Notebook-15-ab522tx, presently I have the warranty

1. HDD to SSD

I have 1TB HDD, I wanted upgrade HDD to SSD particularly Samsung EVO 860 Pro 512GB SSD.

My laptop only supports SATA so I  am going for 860 EVO Pro.

2. 8GB RAM to 16GB

I have 8 GB DDR3 I wanted to upgrade it to 16GB.

3. By using HDD Caddy I wanted to put 1TB HDD in place of CD-ROM.

I wanted to know does my laptop supports?

Are there any issues with the upgrade? like compatibility problems or any other problems.

Please let me know if there are any better options available then above.

Thank you

I understand that you are in need of support.need not worry I'll be glad to assist you.

To answer you 1st and the 3rd question, yes it supports.

To answer the second question upgrading the RAM 8GB to 16GB,  as it has only one slot you have to remove the 8GB Ram and upgrade with the 16GB Ram.

Thank you.

As per product documentation HP Pavilion Notebook-15-ab522tx it has two slots [8GB +8GB].

I have also checked in system information.

Hi,

Your PC supports max 16GB of DDR3L-1600Mhz RAM (2x8GB)

At the moment you have one stick of 8GB, so you can add another 8GB stick in the empty slot. It will not support a 16GB stick in one slot. You can order RAM of your prefered brand such as Crucial, Samsung... .

On page 2 and 55 of service manual you can see various configurations and steps to upgrade RAM

You can replace the HDD with SSD without any problem. You will need to reinstall the OS on the SSD,  either by using recovery disks, migrating a backup image or by downloading media creation tool from Microsoft on different PC, running and creating a bootable pendrive with the OS on it. Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to Internet.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you choose this option you will need to use the pendrive to perform a clean install of Windows 10. You might need to disable fastboot and secure boot in BIOS (but most likely not as the hard drive has been replaced). So, insert the pendrive in the PC and it should boot directly from the drive. If not, turn off PC by holding power button. Press power button and immediately keep pressing ESC  until startup menu appears and then press F9 and choose the pendrive in boot menu. Once it boots from pendrive follow the procedure to install Windows. You do not need a product key as it is in the firmware. Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to internet.

When finished installing allow Windows to completely update and find all or most drivers. You can follow this process by going into settings > Security and update > click on Verify for updates. You might need to reboot a couple of times. Once completely updated you  can go into device manager and see if there are any missing drivers (there will be yellow exclamation mark next to the device). You can find these drivers and software on HP support page for your product:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-15-ab500-notebook-pc-series/9068229/mod...

I do not usually use caddy in my notebooks, but it should not present any problem.

Let me know if you need further help,

David
