HP Laptop 14-dk1xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 in S Mode

Ok so I recently bought a HP Laptop 14-dx1xxx and I wanna upgrade the memory considering it only has 4GB (3.42 usable) somebody told me that I could buy a 16GB stick of ram and use it . If this is true how do I do so and what should I buy? I am also looking to upgrade anything else I can on this laptop if possible so any suggestions and advice would be much appreciated. Also please forgive me I don't know much about computers in general other than using them lol. Thanks in advance for any help!

What is your HP Laptop 14-dk1xxx ? For example

      HP Laptop - 14-dk1003dx

Your machine could be very similar. I use the above machine to answer your question. It has  4 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB) now. Looks like it only has one slot of RAM. You can upgrade to 8GB by replacing 4GB with 8GB using the following compatible RAM

Now, you have to check what is your machine because some machines of the series have 2 slots of RAM

Regards.
