Would be nice to upgrade the RAM of my HP 255 G7 AMD A4 9125 laptop. Each use is slow, too slow. However, the videos show that there are two RAM slots, one busy and one free. Is this exactly so? Utility CPU-Z detects SLOT # 1 and no SLOT # 2. So maybe there is only one? I haven't opened to check yet. So, my question is can I replace 4GB RAM with 1 x SO-Dimm 16GB DDR4 2400MHZ 1.2V? Thanks a lot.

Hi, @Clienteanziano

I can tell you with 100% certainty that your notebook only has one memory slot, and the max the slot can take is an 8 GB memory module.

I have two of the same model, but mine came outfitted with 1 x 8 GB of memory and a 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD.

With 8 GB of memory and a SATA SSD, they are marginal in performance at best.

So, you will have to remove the 4 GB memory module and replace it with an 8 GB memory module.

You can get an 8 GB compatible memory module directly from Crucial at the link below.

I agree with Huffer that DDR4-2400 would be what you wanted, but on the above report, the DDR4-2666 8 GB memory module may be cheaper to buy than the DDR4-2400 chip and it will also work, but at the 1866 MHz speed.

Amazon.it has the DDR4-2400 memory chip for 9 euros more than Crucial sells the 2666 MHz chip for.

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

It says the A9 and E2 versions only have a single memory slot, but I suspect that is a typo and the A4 machines such as yours only have a single slot. When they make these boards at the factory they just do not solder on a second memory module clip. The circuitry for a second slot is present in the motherboard so diagnostics will often detect 2 slots. I am about 90% sure your laptop has one memory slot. Memory is DDR4-2400 but will downclock to -1866 speed. Max single module is 8 gb.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.
