HP ENVY x360 Convert 15-eu0012no
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Cannot tell by product information given, if it is possible to either add more ram to an empty slot, or upgrade by taking out existing ram and put in bigger... So to sum up my question; how many slots does this model have, and (how) is it possible to upgrade to more ram?

Hi:

According to chapter 1 of the service manual, there are two memory slots and you can install a max of 2 x 8 GB of memory.

Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)

2 x 8 GB doesn't sound very much to me on such modern hardware.

You can do this to find out exactly how much memory your notebook can take...

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator. This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacity and hit enter. There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your notebook's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Thank you for your insight Paul! Brilliant info, with links, a bit of thoughts and help to self help!

Ran the cmd, and the answer to max ram on this unit is, 32 GB.

Since the laptop came with 8 GB, is it safe to assume there is one slot free atm? Is there otherwise any difference by by having 2x4 gb ram, to 1x8 gb?

Also, how is the best way of finding compatible hardware for a unit (Europe)? Does it takes a specialist to install the hardware?

You're very welcome.

The specs for your notebook indicate that it came with 2 x 4 GB of memory, so there are no free memory slots.

I recommend you go to 2 x 8 GB of memory.

Two of these should work.

You can read chapter 5 of the service manual for the memory removal and replacement procedures.

If you don't feel comfortable doing the work yourself, you can take it to a PC repair shop authorized to do work on HP notebooks.

There is one thing that scares me...

When I ran the Crucial memory report for the model series, I could only find this model and Crucial indicates the memory is not replaceable.

So, somebody is wrong.  Either HP or Crucial.

I have an older HP Envy 15 notebook (15-ee047nr)) and both HP and Crucial indicated the memory was not removable.

Somebody else took a 15-ee apart, and said you can replace the memory, and even took pictures of the inside of the notebook showing the memory could be removed.

So, before you buy any memory, make sure the memory can indeed be replaced/upgraded.

Hm, yes indeed. That part confused me too, about the memory being replaceable or not.

Is the only way to know, to open up the unit and have a look inside? Or how will one know?

HP Recommended

Yes, unfortunately the only way to be absolutely sure is to do exploratory surgery.

The HP manual clearly indicates the memory is removable and upgradable.

From chapter 1...Upgradeable system memory supporting up to 16 GB (2 × 8 GB or 2 × 4 GB) and 8 GB (1 × 8 GB or 2 × 4 GB

In the old days that used to be pretty easy to open up a notebook and replace the memory, but nowadays, it is not very easy to take these notebooks apart.
