I own this older HP laptop 15 - BW0 xx. It currently has 8 GB of memory. I would like to upgrade it to 16 GB. Is there a card that fits this computer? It is DDR4. AMD quad-core A12-9720P.

You're very welcome.
While I normally rely on that report as well, I am doubtful that 64 GB of memory would work.
However, I do believe that 32 GB of memory would work because I have read other posts from forum members that have installed 16 GB memory chips in notebooks with the AMD A series 7th gen processors.
If you want to go with a 16 GB memory chip, this one should be compatible.

Have you replaced the mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive?
If not, you may want to consider doing that as well.

Hi:
This should be a compatible 8 GB memory chip you can install in the empty memory slot.

Thank you for the reply. When I do the command prompt it tells me that my maximum is 64 GB. 67,108,864 is the maxcapacityEx. How many slots are there inside this unit and is 64GB a reality or should I just do 32gb. it currently has 8gb and I honestly just wanted to go to 16. But if I can max this out and make it faster I will.

Thanks again for the reply. I have not been inside this computer yet. I didn't want to open it up if there was nothing I could do. It currently has 8 GB. Are there two slots for 16 GB each? No I have not replaced the SSD. But I will if it will help as well. I still have plenty of room on the one that is in here but if it is a performance issue and not a lack of space then I can change it otherwise I have plenty of room still on this drive.

You're very welcome.
Yes, there are two memory slots, and based on the report you ran, you should be able to install 2 x 16 GB of memory.
A 2.5" SSD will speed up the drive performance and boot up time significantly or I wouldn't have recommended it.
You don't even need to install a 1 TB drive if you can live with 500 GB, but a WD Blue SA510 1 TB SSD is not overly expensive.

Awesome. Thank you Paul for your knowledge. I just got through building a high-powered PC with an AMD processor for music production and it works amazing. I installed two of the Samsung 2.5 SATAIII SSDs in it. Plus a Samsung 980. I'm assuming that the same 2.5 will fit in this laptop as well. Thanks again for your help.
