This has all the information you need.
Yes the computer can take up to 8 gigs of DDR2-800 DIMMs and has 4 slots so you need 4 x 2 gig DDR2-800 desktop non-ECC memory modules, all the same if possible.
This would work:
These are Hynix modules which is a brand commonly used by OEM computer makers and would be compatible. Order 4 of them.

Many thanks for your quick response. it seems I now have to upgrade the CPU and, perhaps, the motherboard. Which would be tha appropriate CPU and motherboard. I am in the process of upgrading the RAM to 6GB now. Currently I have
Processor AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+speed 2.3 GHz, 2 Cores.
I have an ASUS motherboard that came with the Computer.
What are the proper upgrade models for both components? I have an HP 6700 all-in-one printer as well. Sorry for the questions but I am new to this sort of thing. I usually bought complete units in the past but I thought I would try this Method.

On desktops it is not real hard to upgrade the processor and motherboard but if you do, essentially it is a new computer. The expense of a current type processor and motherboard may be just as much as a new computer. What is it you are trying to do? Why have you come to the conclusion you need a new processor and motherboard? Not disagreeing, by the way.

Again, your quick response is very much appreciated. I know that I have to upgrade the operating system but I have Vista Premium 64-bit which is no longer supported by Microsoft and won't let me go to OS 10 unless I purchase 7 or 8 first. Also I cannot upgrade at least a dozen of my drivers anymore because they are out-dated. I don't want to go to the expense of getting a new motherboard or CPU but feel it is necessary now to enable full use.
The extra RAM is a good start, I think, but I believe the other 2 items should make my system much stronger. I really like my HP desktop but over the last 3 weeks I've had 3 bluescreens and sometimes I get a black screen for just a few seconds but multiple times during a long session. i know the computer is trying to process something but there is just not enough that can be done with the old CPU, which is a pretty good indication that it's time.
