Pavilion g6-2004er
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello! I am writing here because I have not found any information anywhere. I would be very grateful for the help! I have an HP Pavilion g6-2004er laptop with an i5-2450M processor. I also had an i7-3610QM processor from another laptop. I am interested in the option of replacing the processor. In order to find out if the motherboard supports this i7, you need to see if the HP Pavilion g6-2004 series laptops were released with such processors. But the HP site has no specifications for any of the laptops. On the Internet I find the characteristics only on the HP Pavilion g6-2004er. I also tried to find out according to the BIOS version which processors are supported, but nothing was found here, however, according to F.27 Rev.A. Thank you all in advance!

Hi:

You can find the list of supported processors in your notebook's maintenance and service guide, chapter 1, page 1.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03345657

It shows the i7-3612QM is supported, but not the i7-3610QM.

Side by side comparison...the 3610 draws 45W and the 3612 only 35W

https://ark.intel.com/compare/64899,67356

According to the manual, no 45W processors are supported.

Finally, when you look at the BIOS revison history release notes on your notebook's support page, no BIOS update adds support for additional processors.

Version: F.26

Version: F.25

Fixed in this release: - Fixes an issue where the usable memory on a system running Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit edition is less than full capacity when the memory installed on the system is 2GB or greater.

Version: F.24

Version: F.16

A battery is over-discharged when a system using battery power shuts down because the battery has completely discharged. - Fixes an issue where a system cannot reconnect to a network using a wireless connection when the wireless device is frequently powered on and off using the F12 function key.

Version: F.14

Fixed in this release: - Fixes an intermittent issue where the optical drive tray does not eject properly when the eject button is pressed after the system resumes from sleep or hibernation modes.

Thanks for the answer! But I don’t understand why the i7-3612QM is suitable when it has FCBGA1224 and a case of 31.0 x 24.0mm (BGA1224), and the native notebook processor has an i5-2450M 37.5mmx37.5mm (rPGA988B); 31mm x 24mm (BGA1023) ??? Does the i7-3610QM processor only for power consumption not fit my motherboard? Is there something like a pinout on the processors, so that at least on the legs can be checked? Since cooling and increased power consumption so far seem to me the only hindrance, but I would not want to burn my laptop or one of the processors with an unsuitable processor.

You're very welcome.

I don't understand your question...the comparison specs I posted show the same dimensions and socket...rPGA988B

Look under the sockets supported section of the comparison sheet.

If I were you, I would not be trying to install a 45W processor in a motherboard designed to run a 35W processor, with no BIOS support for the 3510QM processor.

If the BIOS does not contain the microcode for the 3510QM processor, it won't work.
