Hello,
I want to know how I can increase the VRAM of my notebook. I’ve seen many posts about this, and they all say the same thing: VRAM is dynamic and adjusts depending on how much is being used. But when I test heavy games and check the VRAM, it’s still 512MB, even though with the processor I have (RYZEN 5500U and 16GB of RAM), it should be 2GB.
I even have another notebook with the same specifications: RYZEN 5500U and 16GB of RAM. When I check the VRAM, it says 2GB, and it runs games much better.
This other notebook has the option to increase the VRAM from the BIOS, which my HP notebook doesn’t have.
How can I fix it?

Hi @Fantara,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
To increase the VRAM (Video RAM) available to your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4V9AV), especially with a Ryzen 5500U processor, you may need to adjust some settings in the BIOS and check your system configuration. Here are some steps to consider:
1. Check BIOS Settings
Many laptops allow you to allocate more VRAM to the integrated graphics through the BIOS. Here’s how to check and adjust these settings:
Access the BIOS:
- Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (usually F10, Esc, or Delete) during the boot process to enter the BIOS setup.
Locate Video Settings:
- Navigate through the BIOS menus to find settings related to graphics, which could be listed under “Advanced,” “Chipset,” or similar sections.
Adjust VRAM Allocation:
- Look for options that mention "Video Memory," "IGD Memory," "Integrated Graphics," or similar terms. If available, you can increase the dedicated memory for the integrated graphics.
- Save your changes and exit the BIOS.
2. Check System Settings in Windows
The amount of VRAM allocated can also be influenced by your Windows settings and how the operating system manages memory.
Windows Graphics Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Display.
- Scroll down and click on Graphics settings.
- Here, you can manage which applications use integrated or dedicated graphics.
Check Performance Options:
- Right-click on This PC and select Properties.
- Click on Advanced system settings on the left.
- In the System Properties window, click on the Settings button under the Performance section.
- Ensure that settings are configured for best performance, which can help with resource allocation.
3. Update Graphics Drivers
Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date, as this can sometimes improve performance and the effective use of VRAM.
- Update Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your graphics.
- You can also check the AMD website for the latest drivers for the Ryzen 5500U integrated graphics.
4. Monitor VRAM Usage
To get an accurate reading of VRAM usage while gaming, use tools like MSI Afterburner, GPU-Z, or the built-in Task Manager in Windows.
- Use Task Manager:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Performance tab and select GPU to monitor the VRAM usage during gaming.
5. Consider Upgrading to a Dedicated GPU
If your gaming needs exceed the capabilities of integrated graphics, consider upgrading to a laptop with a dedicated GPU. Integrated graphics can struggle with demanding games, and a dedicated GPU will significantly enhance performance.
If you still experience issues or limitations, it may be inherent to the laptop's hardware capabilities and configurations.
If you need further assistance I recommend you contact phone support.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

1) The BIOS doesn't have a setting for VRAM, and my BIOS is updated to the latest version from the HP website.
2) This didn't solve the problem
3) I tried updating the video drivers using the ones provided on HP's official website, and I received the following error.
It's in Spanish, but the error says: "A prerequisite for the installation could not be met."
4) Regardless of what I am using, it always stays at 512MB.
5) I'm not asking my processor to do more than it should. Why should I have to buy a dedicated graphics card when I paid for a Ryzen 5500U, and it should work without restrictions?
