HP 355 G2
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Trying to upgrade from W7 to W10. Fails every time saying that my machine doesn't support the current version of W10 (1903 I believe) and that I don't have to do anything except wait and when Microsoft have fixed whatever it wrong I will be offered the upgrade via update. Am I supposed to trust that this message is correct or is something else going on?

You likely need a BIOS update on your AMD system to allow Windows 10 to run.

The latest BIOS is F.12 Rev. A.

Did you have the BIOS updated to that level? If so it is some other hardware incompatibility.

I have F12 but it doesn't say Rev A

why not using clean install? that's much better than from update 😄 n you had many profit, such as new driver thats support win10, etc... also your drive not full with junk 😄 cause if u using from update from win7, some software not working on win10 😄

I have so much stuff I need to keep I can't face a clean install and re-inputting all the programs I've got, many only downloaded, would take ages to sort out, hence just in situ upgrade attempt.

Still likely the latest so its not BIOS

thats the issue when we want upgrade the system.

  1.  first check the compability the software you use and if not support you should search the new version.
  2. second you should backup the data and better backup to external drive
  3. third try to add more Ram, cause win7 and win10 had different gap of speed. For sample in win7 with 4gb of ram maybe enough but not with win 10
  4. fourth before upgrade if the drivers not support, try search manual on device manager.

anyway, if you still like win 7 so let it be the info about win 10 upgrade 😄

I believe the issue you had because you using win 7 base on drivers and software 😄

1. Windows 10 does not take any more RAM than Windows 7. You may want to add RAM but it will not make the in place upgrade happen.

2. Yes of course you have Windows 7 drivers because you have Windows 7. The upgrade process will replace those drivers (if it can); that's part of what an upgrade does.

3. I do think its correct to check the compatibility of apps and programs you have now. Of everything mentioned above that is the more likely explanation although I believe its a hardware compatibility issue most likely the video.

I'm following the instructions from Computeractive to do this whole operation so I've checked that all updates have been done so drivers should be okay. Just to be sure I checked the AMD Radeon website and confirmed that. Tried upgrade again but still same message as attached. Any ideas anyone?

What are the specs of your machine? This will tell us what video chip you have likely R4. It is known to have issues with Windows 10. You cannot preload Windows 10 drivers. They are provided by the upgrade routine. You might actually try removing the video driver you have temporarily, making it Windows Basic video and see if that will allow the upgrade. You might also try upgrading from an older version of Windows 10 and then upgrade that older version to a current Build.  You are also licensed for Windows 8.1 Pro I think and you might try upgrading to that first.
