I am sure this has been looked at many times. My Pavilion G6-1241EA has a Ralink RT5390 wireless adaptor which is playing up. I need to replace but would like to install a dual channel adaptor so that I can have either 2.4 or 5 Ghz. There is conflicting views about whether this is achievable and therefore I am stuck. I understand the laptop manual has errors with which cards are supported and their ability to cater for dual band. My processor is an Intel i5-2430M so 2nd generation. Any suggestions which card will operate? I have read that someone tried the Intel AC726060+BT HMC with success but would appreciate some advice please.

Hi and thanks for your support. I have a copy of the manual and as I understand all the listed cards only offer 2.4 gHz single channel indicated by b/g/n except the Realtek 8188BC8 802.11a/b/g/n 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0+HS Combo Adapter which has the magical 'a' which indicated dual band. However someone has indicated that this is card is only 2.4 GHz single band so I am reluctant to try it. I am still searching.

This was the response by others:-
"Realtek 8188BC8 802.11a/b/g/n 2×2 WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0+HS Combo Adapter
602993-001
Problem is when I type that HP part number into the HP parts database I get a description that is only a 1x1 card:
602993-001 B/G/N (1x1) WLAN card - Half MiniCard (HMC) combo Tozai.
Futhermore , someone posted on a forum he ordered it to try and it was indeed a 1x1 card".
This is why I am doubtful this card will provide dual band facility.

Fair enough. There may indeed be a substitute part of lesser capacity.

The replacement is a single band B/G/N so no good. I think I am going to have to take the plunge and try part no 710661-001 which is Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0 WLAN module. Someone else installed this and it worked allbeit on a Pavilion G6-2210 whereas mine is a G6-1241. In the meantime I have ordered a dual band dongle to assess performance on the 5 GHz band before tryimg the wlan card.
