Hp 15-r119tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello Everyone,

New Member to this Forum.

Recently upgraded a the Hard Drive and Ram for the HP 15-r119tu. Looking to upgrade the existing WLAN+BT Combo card to a Dual Band+BT Combo as it supports only 2.4 GHz. I only see single antenna wire which running along the display frame.

Understand in order to install would need to disassemble the screen, I have performed this before in order to replace the frame and hinges of the laptop. I am looking for the right compatible  combo card to buy and if there is any installation guide for installing another antenna.

Currently using USB Wifi adapter, the idea is to save a usb port and also make laptop more portable. Also the current Wlan card the reception seems to be very weak. Not sure if it is the actual antenna itself which is the problem.

Kindly let me know if you need any further details and I will provide accordingly.

@Vish_p157 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you would like to upgrade the Wireless card dual antenna.

I have checked the manual (page number 3)

(HP does not recommend upgrades as the device is equipped with parts that perform at its optimal performance and also, the upgradeable parts listed in HP articles are purely for your ease, though the decision to upgrade will be at your own discretion)

Your product support Single antenna support Support for the following WLAN formats:

● Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

● Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

● Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi + BT4.0 HMC Combo Adapter

● Realtek RT8723BE 802.11 bgn 1x1 Wi-Fi + BT4.0 HMC Combo Adapter

I would suggest you purchase the external wireless adapter.

Thank you very much for your response and information. Understand that it is not recommended.

My laptop is currently  out of warranty and hence would like to upgrade to dual antenna. I am already using external adapter, but as i mentioned would like to upgrade the Wlan to have support for dual band.

I am currently  looking for antenna kits to install it, but regarding the card would like to have one that would work with my processor intel Pentium N3450.  Would update here about the proceedings if any one is trying the same.

Thank you again for the info.

I understand your concerns.

According to the manual, your product does not support Dual antenna (internal ).

A few things to remember are mentioned below:

The compatibility of your router with the wireless card,

If the wireless card is 1x1: supports 2.4 GHz and below - slow connection and download/upload speed,

If it's 2x2 or more: support 5 GHz and above - Fast connected and speed.

Have a nice day!!
