HP Notebook - 17-x115dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Laptop is an HP Notebook - 17-x115dx and It does not have Bluetooth capabilities. I have a wireless router that only transmits on the 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi band and my laptop will not connect to it.

The HP Notebook - 17-x115dx came with a Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter. I have found another post that this model Wi-Fi card can only transmit and receive on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band.

On the same post there was an answer that the Wi-Fi card would need to be replaced with a card that works on both bands (2.4 & 5.0), and since the HP Notebook 17-x115dx notebook only has one antenna cable, there is only one dual band Wi-Fi card that works with only one antenna, and that is:

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP Part # L17365-005

So here are my questions before I buy the suggested Wi-Fi Adapter:

  1. If I replace my Wi-Fi Card with the one that is suggested will this fix my Wi-Fi connection problem?
  2. Since the suggested card is a Wi-Fi + Bluetooth Combo Adapter will my laptop have Bluetooth capabilities once it is installed?

Hi:

Yes, the RTL8821CE is the only dual band wifi card that will work in your notebook where the bluetooth and wifi will work with one antenna.

The answer to both of your questions is yes.  You will have dual band wifi and bluetooth.

The max throughput on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router will be 433 MBPS.

It will be the same as it is now on the 2.4 GHz wifi band
