Thank you for all your efforts .

It turns out that due to incomprehensibly poor service  from local suppliers and computer repair shops ,
I decided to buy the cheapest b / g / n router , and try it out , without upgrading my wifi card to AC  .

Low and behold it works fine .
I also run my smart phones internet off the same router .

All working terrific .
