800 G5 Mini
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi.

I have a mini computer, it’s Elitedesk 800 G5 mini and it ran with intel core i5 9600  256 ssd NVme , 8G ram. I wondered that I can upgrade cpu from core i5 9600 to i9 9900K. I’ve read the TDP of i5 9600 is 65W, and the i9 9900k is 95W. The mother board can handle that ?
Thank you.

Hello

HP sells  Elitedesk 800 G5 DM with i9-9900K 95W CPU but the DM has a slightly different chassis ables to manage the heat produced by i9-9900K.

if you install such i9-9900K on a DM built to support 65W CPU, I guess something could overheat and break.

it's up to you to decide if it's worth  to risk to break your 800 G5 DM.

bye

Thanks for your reply.
But when I search ED 800 g5 MD on HP website, And I saw processor specification they said that core i9 support without notice (65w or 95w).
I try to search as the same ED 800 g4 MD, at processor specification, where the cpu support within notice only 95w or 65w

So I understand whether I can upgrade it

Thank you

Hello

I will check better in next days, but I'l pretty sure there are some diferences.

Cool down a 65W CPU and a 95W CPU is not exactly the same. I'll try to find a Hardware Reference Guide and Service Manual where could be possible to find what is different.

Also the power supply is different.

bye

Hello here the service Manual

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06439994

in the "Replacement Parts list" there are 3 different  motherboard.

(18)System board (includes replacement thermal material)

For use in models with 95W processors

For use in models with 65W processors

For use in models with 35W processors

and 3 AC adapter

150 W, APFC

90 W, APFC

65 W, nPFC

now as you are the PC owner , it's up to you to decide to try to upgrade the CPU from Core i5 65W to Core i9 95W

bye
