HP Envy Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to determine compatible SSDs or system memory upgrades for an HP Envy Notebook (Product W2K90UA#ABA) .  Even with system reset the load times and performance are very slow at this point.  Current info is:

12mb system storage:

8GB Micron 2133MHz

4GB Hynix/Hyundai 2133MHz

Drive:

HGST HTS721010A9E630

So the computer has the described space for the SSD, but no slot to plug into. Is this available aftermarket?

You have 12 gigs of RAM which is plenty but you might change out the 4 gig module for an 8 gig module so as to have dual channel operation. Improvement would be slight however. Your big upgrade opportunity is a solid state drive. There is an M.2 slot that will take a SATA type M.2 SSD. Here is the Service Manual:

Add a SATA M.2 SSD 2280 form factor such as this:

Put the OS on the SSD and you can keep all the data on the existing hard drive. I would do a clean install of Windows 10 rather than a clone of a system that is not running well so you don't just move the problems over to a new drive. Your laptop is very capable and with these upgrades should be zippy again. The only thing I will add is you should open the laptop before buying upgrades just to be sure the slot is present as shown in the images above.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

No you are lucky I was aware of this possible issue. The M.2 slot was not added to the motherboard at the factory and cannot now be added. Your only SSD option is a 2.5 inch SATA SSD used in lieu of the mechanical hard drive. Performance will be the same as an M.2 SATA SSD but obviously you will not have dual storage.

Prices have come way down on the 2.5 inch SATA SSDs. Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.
