Unfortunately, your (Intel 2nd Gen.) sandy bridge processor will work in an (Intel 3rd Gen.) Ivy Bridge chipset system board, but not the other way around.
The answer to your upgrade question is a no.
The Sand Bridge\Ivy Bridge chipset\processor was always a tricky issue.

The 2nd Gen Intel Core i7 processors on the specifications document on the link below are compatible. I suggest finding a known working second-hand unit. The new ones are still quite pricey. eBay may be a good source for this.

It is recommended that you use the HP part number version to ensure compatibility. Use the HP part number for a search term so you can find an online vendor.
