Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a one year old laptop with Intel 7th gen i5 and 8 GB ram. Sometimes I  feel that my laptop takes quite some time to do some very basic tasks like opening a few tabs in chrome or opening pictures using the Windows 10 Pictures app. I have read somewhere on the Internet that this can be due to slow 5400 rpm HDD that are installed in today's laptops and an upgrade to an SSD can very much solve this issue. Is there a way I can get this upgrade done by HP themselves as I dont want to void my 3 yrs extended warranty.

Likely HP will not do it for you and even if they would it is expensive to have them do it since they will not use 3rd party parts and their SSDs are 2 or 3 times the price of retail. You are absolutely correct that you need an SSD in today's computing environment and you might have a few different options depending on your exact model. Just knowing the processor and such does not tell us what model so we know what upgrade slots it has. On all models, opening the laptop to configure memory and storage is allowed without voiding the warranty. However, on a few models the work is more difficult than others and probably beyond the skills of a casual tech like an end user. We have assisted hundreds to do the very upgrade you ask about and I can say I personally have done the upgrade on quite a few different HP models so have some practical experience and recommendations on where to get the parts for the best price. SSD prices have fallen in the past few months and as they say, there has never been a better time...

Post back to discuss it further if you wish. We can find you a manual, likely a video and promise to hang with you until the job is done.

My laptop model is HP 15-au620TX consisting of a 2.5inches toshiba HDD of 1 TB capacity.

I myself have very little experience in hardware and preferably would be taking help of a professional for this update.

Here is the Manual:

Whoever does the work would start on p. 29 for removal of the back plastic cover. And, inside you would find:

For this model series it frequently happens that the slot circled in red above is missing. So, in your case I would purchase a 2.5 inch SATA SSD. There are some very good deals available this weekend and tomorrow (Cyber Monday) on these drives.

This link has all sizes and at under $130 for a 1 TB these prices are half what they were a year ago.

Basically you follow the instructions to replace the hard drive on p. 32. You also need to get Windows onto the SSD by either clean installing or transferring (cloning) from the old disk.

In every major city you can find computer repair technicians who can do the hardware part of this in 15 minutes. A shop might charge $150 or so in labor to replace the hard drive with an SSD and reinstall Windows 10 and if you buy the SSD from them they will mark it up. I used to have a business interest in such an establishment is how I know this. You can also try to find a friend or relative who is minimally handy with a screwdriver and we are here for moral and other support.

Here is a good video where the person follows along with the manual:

This is not your exact model but from the same model series so it looks basically the same inside. There are ways to do the clone that do not involve a desktop computer as he uses. The video is a little jerky but not bad and he does go slow and explain stuff.
