I purchased a hp pavilion ab032tx notebook in 2015. Off lately it consumes too much time to boot and perform other operations. I wish to upgrade the hdd to a ssd using "Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E250BW)"
My questions:
1. Can I use both hdd and ssd on my laptop? someone was saying that there is an additional m.2 slot.
2. If not then can I swap the existing hdd and use this new ssd on my machine. Will I face any problems?
Thanks much in advance.

Hi @ashvtosh,
Good Day. Thank you for posting your query in the HP community. I read the post regarding upgrading an SSD on your computer. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you check the product specs and the service manual of the computer?
For a start let me keep you posted about a few things.
- The good news is that the computer has an M.2 slot for SSD upgrades which means that it is possible to retain the hard drive and include an SSD also.
- The Samsung SSD in question on paper may be supported. But it has not been tested by HP.
- Please note that HP does not recommend upgrading either the operating system or the computer’s hardware as the components that were initially installed with the unit are certified by HP for optimal performance. However, as you are very technically inclined, I would still request you to consult a local technician like Best Buy or Staples before proceeding to upgrade the unit.
- So please contact a local Best Buy or Staples technician and perform the upgrade so that there are no compatibility issues with the SSD for your computer and everything works smoothly.
- Link for service manual http://hp.care/2gT9bUM gives the only SSD tested by HP with the part number for it. Please refer to pages 53 and 32.
- 256 GB solid-state drive (SSD), M.2, TLC 837768-001 is the SSD tested by HP and supported by this computer which can be vouched for by HP.
- Product specs link: http://hp.care/2eT31n6
- A lot of research has gone into providing you with the relevant information.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

Thanks DavidSMP, your answers really did help. I have only one last doubt. I saw a video on youtube by someone opening the HP ab032tx in order to add ram and clean fan, but from the video I still cannot figure out where to fit my ssd ALONG WITH my hdd. I mean I really did not see any space available. So are you pretty sure abut the fact that I can use both?
Also I am from India and hence have to contact HP support as no one else will help me. If not HP support then a local technician who is experienced in laptops. I may not be able to lay my hands on the ssd that you recommend.

Hi @ashvtosh,
I reviewed the post comprehensively. You've displayed great temperament, tremendous patience and a keen eye for research to get information regarding this Kudos to you for that. 🙂 Please go through the service guide. It gives you complete information to replace the SSD. Yes, It is possible to install the HDD and SSD at the same time as it has a dedicated M.2 Slot for the SSD and the Hard drive is housed in a different bay.
Please google the part# for the SSD and you could possibly order it from eBay, Amazon India or Flipkart.
Please contact a local technician to perform the upgrade so that there are no compatibility issues.
Trust me I've done all I can to assist you by keeping your best interest in mind. You've been commendable and it has been an absolute privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂
I genuinely hope the computer works great and stays healthy for a long time once it gets fixed. 🙂
