HP Pavilion - 15-au183sa
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Good afternoon, I have this laptop (15-au183sa) since ages and I would like to know if I can upgrade the existing hdd serial ata 1tb with a ssd serial ata with the same storage capacity.

It's getting really slow and I think soon will not work anymore, so I want to prevent that this happen ant to be able to still use the laptop.

Thanks so much to whoever will be able to help me with this query.

Hi:

Yes, you can replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

Thanks so much for your reply.

Just to be sure, because I read the manual and it wasn't clear 100%, may I install this Samsung 870 QVO 1 TB SATA 2.5?

Thanks again for helping me out.

You're very welcome.

Yes, you can install a Samsung 870 QVO 1 TB SATA 2.5" SSD and it should work just fine.

I believe that model drive has the fastest sequential read/write speeds on the market.

While the service manual does mention M.2 SATA SSD support, only the 15-auxxx notebooks that came with a M.2 SATA SSD from the factory have the M.2 slot.

One other thing...your notebook should be supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use before you replace the drive to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook on the new SSD.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for that.

Otherwise, you can use the Microsoft media creation tool to create a plain W10 USB installation flash drive and then install the drivers and software from your notebook's support page.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
