hp spectre "13-4103dx"
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have HP Spectre 13-4103DX laptop with 256GB SSD and am running out of space. I would like to upgrade the hard drive.

I looked at the specification of laptop and user manual and have following questions

1) Is there a reason why a 1TB SSD drive will not be supported by 13-4103DX? The user manual only mentions 512GB drive? I am looking to upgrade current 256GB drive to this

2) It looks like I need M2 2280 form factor hard drive. Does this have to be SATA III drive or it can be new PCI NVMe interface like this one

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums! After reading your post I see that you want to upgrade the HP Spectre notebook and you want to upgrade the SSD on it. I would like to help you out with this issue today.

1)If you install more than 512GB, it may not detect on your computer as HP has tested not tested more than 512GB on your comouter.

Based on the configuration of your computer, HP recommends to use Maximum SSD drive on this computer is 512GB.

However, you can try with more storage space, but it may or may not work.

2) Yes, it has to be 512-GB, M2, SATA3 solid-state drive supporting TLC (Part no: 801504-001).

You can refer page no.32 in this HP service guide for more information on SSD:- https://hp.care/2GguWcJ

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers.

Hi,

Your PC supports  M2 SATA3 drive.

The 512GB size is not the limit, it is what the PC could be bought with. So, you can insert a larger drive without any problem. I fyou look on Crucial site for your model (which guarantees its upgrades) you can see there is a 1TB drive available:

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for//hp-spectre-x360-13-4103dx

On page 32 of service manual you can see the steps to replace drive.

Hope it helps,

David
