Can HP 17-CP1035CL Window 11 Notebook take SSD SATA internal hard drive? It has a PCI NVMe M.2 slot, but I still want to replace the internal 1TB slow SATA hard drive to the SSD 2.5in hard drive. The spec show the notebook can accept 512GB PCIe M.2 SSD with the 1TB SATA hard drive.  So, I want some answers

@PC-17CP1035CL,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

[EDIT:] According to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-17.3-inch-laptop-pc-17-cp0000/2100371514/document/c07905316 and: https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=50U26UA, there appears to be no M.2 NVMe SSD slot available in your laptop.

Kind Regards,

My notebook should be 17-cp1035cl not cp0000.

@PC-17CP1035CL,

Trust me, I understand. Commercial sources assign this MPN to this laptop: 61V38UA, which, according to: HP PartSurfer, refers to:  HP 17 Laptop PC 17-cp1000 (4V7P0AV), and does not show an M.2 NVMe SSD slot.  The challenge is that searching for specifics regarding your laptop inside the HP Reservation is like walking blindfolded, with one hand bound behind your back, and one foot in a cast.  For example, I think (as in: could be?) that your motherboard is the HP p/n: N07896-601 ("Motherboard UMA PH Ryzen5 6C WIN"), but there are zero specs to be found.

Going to secondary sources, such as these links: 2022 HP 17-cp1035cl 17.3" Touch HD+ Laptop AMD Ryzen 5 5625U 12GB RAM 1TB Win 11 | eBay, doesn't shed any light either, other than to discourage the idea that your laptop has an M.2 NVMe SSD slot:

And Crucial -usually a pretty accurate/comprehensive source, as per: HP - Compaq HP 17-cp1035cl | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com, says:

And here: HP 17-cp1035cl 17.3" HD+ 1600 x 900 Laptop AMD Ryzen 5 5625U up to 4.3 (iconicmicro.com) and: HP 17.3" Touchscreen Laptop - AMD Ryzen 5 5625U - Windows 11 | Costco, these sources also don't shed any light either:

The point is, I am lost in the proverbial woods. Doesn't happen very often, but that's where I am at the moment.  Maybe tomorrow a light will flicker and lead me to the info I have been looking for.

Btw, I would love to see others in this Forum to add/figure out what you got.

My suggestion -that is, if you are comfortable with it, is to remove the back panel and take a look.  Take a picture, if you can, and let's see if there is an M.2 NVMe SSD slot, or not.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for helping. I have opened the notebook. It does have the PCIe M.2 slot. I have different problem now. I have cloned SATA Ssd drive and PCIe M.2 ssd drive. The problem is that the hp will boot from the SATA Ssd, but not the PCIe M.2 SSD. I have warning code stated that the boot sector not accessible., but  It knows the PCIe device is there.

@PC-17CP1035CL,

Why don't you try this first: access BIOS settings. Under the Boot tab, make sure that the cloned drive is first in the boot order. If your cloned M.2 drive is a GPT disk, make sure the UEFI boot mode is enabled, and if it is an MBR disk, then set it to Legacy boot mode.

In case your laptop does not support UEFI boot mode, you need to do a GPT to MBR conversion before you can boot from the cloned M.2 drive.

In short, if your laptop is not using the correct boot mode, that is one of the main reasons why your cloned M.2 NVMe SSD is not booting.

I tried both SSD hard drives individually to test them out. They are not installed into the machine together. So, the machine will look for what is available to boot up. HP does support UEFI. The machine boot up the SATA SSD drive. After installing the PCIe SSD card, It is trying to boot up, but giving a warning message stating the drive is inaccessible.
