Hi guys,
I want to upgrade the internal SSD of my laptop. It's product name is HP - 15s-dr000xxx.
Currently the device has a 256 Samsung M.2 SATA SSD (SAMSUNG MZNLN256HAJQ-000H1).
I want to know if I can use nvme SSDs with this system? Also, I would like to know how much storage am I allowed to upgrade. I'd like to upgrade to 1 TB but, honestly 500 GB is also fine

Hi:
For whatever reason, HP has a maintenance and service guide for a different model series on your notebook's support page.
HP ENVY 15-dr0000 x360 Convertible PC Manuals | HP® Customer Support
My assumption is that your notebook uses the same manual.
Chapter 1 indicates that HP offered NVMe SSD's up to 1 TB in storage capacity in the model series, so you should be fine with installing either a 500 GB or 1 TB NVMe SSD.
The Crucial memory/SSD report shows they offer NVMe SSD's up to 4 TB in storage capacity for your notebook.

I just found out that we can check the SSD interface type using the Crystal DiskInfo software. I checked it and it showed SATA M.2 interface. So, I'm now confused. I guess the best way to know is to tear apart the laptop and look for the connectors

Your notebook's M 2 slot supports both SATA and NVMe SSD's.
I have generally found that trying to use software utilities to determine what type of M.2 slot a PC has to be of little value.
Since your notebook has a SATA SSD installed, the utility reports the slot is SATA.
If your notebook had a NVMe SSD installed the utility would report the slot is PCIe.
When you look at the M.2 connector, you will find it has one key, like every other HP desktop and notebook PC has.
Looking at the M 2 slot is of absolutely no help in determining what type of SSD your notebook supports, since they all look the same.

Thanks for the info. You have saved my time.
So, I found the exact product information page for my laptop: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-15s-dr0000-laptop-pc/26185505/manuals
However, in the manuals I can't find the user guide
