Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I can't see from the 17-ab201na specification, what interface is being used for the DVD drive and didn't want to take the laptop apart (under warranty) until I was sure.

I wanted to upgrade the existing DVD drive to  a Bluray player.

DVD part number is 756564-038 and at first glance it looks to be a standard interface with an addon bracket.

Ebay have this one: 603678-001

Anyone know specification of interface/where there are pictures/part numbers please?

Thanks

Hi,

Was trying to search for an HP Blueray drive that could fit into your HP laptop.

I came across this product: OSST Internal Slim 9.5mm SATA Blu-RAY 6x BD RW DVD Write Burner ROM Laptop ODD Tray Loading Optical Drive Device as described on the Amazon website: http://amzn.to/2EDbWFj

This is a 9.5mm drive and should work.

Cheers!

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums.

MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion - 17-ab201na laptop and would like to replace the DVD drive with a blue ray drive.

During my research, I came across the service guide for your HP laptop model. The page numbers 43 explains on replacing the optical drive and page number 66 explains on replacing the optical drive connector on the motherboard.

Hope this answers your questions. Feel free to keep me posted.

Cheers! 🙂

Hi

Thanks  - the laptop doesnt come with a Bluray drive as an option I believe, so I was hoping to replace the DVD with Bluray.

I have taken out the drive and it looks to be a standard interface, so I have gambled on a drive from Ebay.

HP BLU-RAY BD-ROM CD/DVD RW SATA Laptop Optical Disc Drive 594040-001

- Hopefully that part will fit with some adjustments

Thanks

John

You're welcome.

The blue ray driver with part # 594040-001 is 12.7mm in size. Wheres, as per the service guide (page#43), this laptop uses an optical drive with a 9.5mm tray size.

You might want to check it out again.

Cheers!

Thanks - I've decided to get a drive enclosure for the HP Bluray I have already ordered (12.5mm). If I can post here, I'll let you know how I got on.

Appreciate your help
