I have a 128Gb sata 3 m.2 SSD in my laptop. Over time there is not enough space and I want to upgrade.
I upgraded to an NVME drive from Westen Digital Black SN 750SE 500GB.
I did a fresh windows install and the drive works great for 5-20 minutes. I was able to download some programs even. It boots fast and I can get into windows. But eventually, the windows start to lock up and then the curser locks up then the screen goes black and I get a message saying the boot manager is missing. And the computer will get hot like it's still running. So I have to turn it off manually.
What am I missing?
Is there a bios issue I am not taking care of?
The old SSD works fine some I am just using it for now. But I need to get more space!
Thank You

Its specs
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05749930
It has
- 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA
- 128 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
What is (brand/model) its original M.2 SSD ? Sounds like firmware for M.2 SSD is not compatible. It is much better to use same brand and series (with different capacity)
Regards.

Okay, so this HP ENVY x360 15 Convertible PC Maintenance and Service GuideIMPORTANT! This document is intended for... is the maintenance manual for your laptop model. Page 29 specifies that it can be equipped with either SATA (yours has an oem Saamsung SATA drive) or NVMe drive, so by rights the WD should not have been a problem. Not saying that this is the cause, but for what it's worth, the WD750 NVMe does tend to run a bit toasty and wouldn't be my first choice for use in a laptop. You could go for a larger capacity M.2 SATA drive, or a cooler running NVMe such as the Samsung SSD 980 - not the 980 Pro - NVMe (It's a very laptop friendly NVMe) or Hynix Gold 31. At any rate, if your laptop gets noticeably hot with the WD drive in it - don't use it.
