Hi,
The notebook offers support for M2 SATA3 SSD such as the Crucial MX500 or the Samsung 860 Evo (the 960 Evo will not work as it is a PCIe NVMe SSD).
The Samsung M2 860 Evo is considered the best SATA3 SSD on the market.
On page 51 of service manual, you can see the steps to install the drive
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05485573
You will need to install the OS on the SSD for performance gain.
Before buying the M2 SSD you should check by removing the bottom cover if the actual physical slot is present on motherboard.
M2 SSD
You should also upgrade the RAM to at least 8GB. The notebook supports max 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz RAM even if the service manual mentions 16GB. There are two slots and at the moment you have one 4GB module. So you could add another 4GB, 8GB or 16GB in the empty slot.

The Crucial MX500 or Samsung 960 EVO series should be ok. For example
