Trying to determine what RAM and SSD I can upgrade my system to. I believe I currently run 8gb RAM. I think I read 16gb is possible but can I run higher? Also, I think I read that this is capable of two hard drives but comes from the factory with only one. If that's the case, what can I install as far as another hard drive or SSD?
If I need to provide more system info just let me know. Thanks in advance for all the help.

It will be difficult to find a hardware kit to install a second drive considering when your notebook came to market.
Here is the Maintenance & Service guide for your notebook series
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579.pdf
You will need the following kit:
Hard Drive Hardware Kit (not illustrated, includes hard drive bracket, primary
hard drive connector cable, secondary hard drive connector cable, and screws)
HP P/n 681976-001 see the hyperlink below for a source at Amazon.com

You can upgrade by replacing the installed legacy hard disk with a 2.5" SATA SSD. You will need to reinstall the OS afterwards.

It would have helped if you included the product number. Press the start button and then tap the F1 key. The product number will be in the list.

Erico,
Thank you for your knowledge. I updated with the product number. Also, from what I can tell, my current drive is a Hybrid drive so unless it's necessary to remove it I would just add another SSD and upgrade my RAM. Ultimatel goal is to increase speed.

If I may suggest that you won't see the increase in "speed" if you don't put the new SATA3 SSD in place of the Hybrid SATA legacy (slow) hard disk.
Leave it unplugged until the next step is complete.
Once that is done, install the operating system to the SSD and make certain that it is now your boot disk. Now you can plug the original hard disk back in and it should be in the SATA1 position.
If you do that you won't believe it is the same notebook.
Otherwise the only thing will be noticeably faster is running programs that are installed to the new SSD.
