HP G56-126NR
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I would like to know if my HP G56-126NR is worth an upgrade. I would like to install Windows 10 and I know I need to upgrade the hardware to do so. I'm not trying to upgrade for gaming or anything advanced just would like to be able to use it when I travel. Basic web use YouTube, FaceBook etc...

Hi:

The only upgrades you could do on that model would be to add additional memory (if it is not already maxed out), and replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" solid state drive.

Your notebook is very old and W10 may not even work on it, so before you plunk down any money on hardware upgrades, I would first take the free upgrade to W10 as is, and make sure everything works (audio, graphics, wifi, etc.), as there are no W10 drivers for your notebook from HP.

Read this article on how to get the free upgrade to W10 and if you want to chance it, click on the blue Update Now button at the link below this one.

Here's how you can still get a free Windows 10 upgrade | ZDNet

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

You have 30 days to go back to W7 in case things don't work as expected on W10, as long as you don't delete any of the upgrade files.

If you are happy with the way things work on W10, you can then go ahead and install more memory and a SSD.

Once W10 has been installed and activated, you can reinstall W10 for free at any time by making bootable installation media using the media creation tool from the link I posted above.

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option.
