I want to upgrade my pc to run virtual machine on it. Currently its has 4gb ddr3 ram and 500gb HDD.
can i add 8gb ddr3 in extra slot and replace 500gb HDD with 500gb SSD in order to make it faster?

What EXACTLY is your Hp notebook i7-5500U 2.4GHz ? Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824
Please do NOT post its Serial number (s/n).
Normally you can upgrade RAM and 500GB HDD to 500GB or 1TB 2.5" SSD.
Regards.

Yes you can use a 4 gb and an 8 gb module of DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM. You can also do 2 x 8 = 16gb if you want it to run "Dual channel". Manual says 8 gb is the max but that is wrong. And yes you can install a 2.5 inch SATA SSD in place of the hard drive. Can't have hard drive plus SSD.
Focus on pages 39-46 for instructions.
Good luck and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.
