HP Pavilion 14-bk003la
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear community members. A few years ago I bought and HP Pavilion 14-bk003la - Product number 1GR05LA, and I have been very pleased with it. I would like to invest a little money to get a few upgrades. My SSD m.2 Sata drive is reaching its maximum capacity and I would like to upgrade it for a larger one. I read that NVMe technology is faster, so I would like to get one. Also, I would like to buy some more RAM, but I don't know the type I should get or if I can upgrade it. As of now, it has 12GB RAM, and I don't know the maximum capacity. Also, I would like to upgrade the wireless card and bluetooth. I found some really nice wireless cards which are dual band and have Bluetooth 5.0, and I wanted to know whether this is possible to replace the current wireless card for a new one. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

Chapter 1 has the list of supported drives, and memory upgrade info.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05493089

You can only install a SATA M.2 SSD in your model according to the manual, and the maximum memory you can install is 2 x 8 GB.

Your notebook has the Realtek single band wifi adapter, which means it only has one antenna cable.

The only wifi card you would be able to upgrade to would be this one...

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

You can find the card on eBay.  Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=L17365-005&_sacat=0&_sop=15

The card has the same throughput as the RTL8723/RTL8188EE on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.

On a dual band wireless N router, it would have a maximum throughput of 150 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band.

Thank you very much again for your reply. I followed your advice, and bought and 8gb Ram according to the specifications and my computer now runs so much smoothly. Here is my doubt or second question. When I opened my computer to install the RAM I noticed that the M.2 port that supports my C drive ssd sata may potentially support an NVMe SSD. I am not sure, so I included some pictures I took while I was installing my new RAM. On the other hand, I am looking for an ssd sata with a larger capacity (256gb would be ideal) and I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade to that ammount of storage. Thanks in advance for your time. 01.jpg02.jpg03.jpg04.jpg

You're very welcome.

Glad the memory helped your notebook's performance.

I cannot find any info that indicates your notebook's M.2 slot supports M.2 SSD's.

The manual indicates SATA only, and the Crucial memory/SSD report indicates SATA only.

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/pavilion-14-%28models-14-bk000---14-bk099...

You could install a larger capacity SATA M.2 SSD.

The report above suggests you can install one up to 1 TB in size.
