Hp pavilion dv2225la
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I'm planning to upgrade the RAM memory to my Hp Pavilion dv2225la, and I read here that model can upgrade up to 4 gb of RAM with DDR2-667 SO-DIMM, but; do you know what version of bios I need to install to get recognized all the 4gb?

I read this topic about to upgrade the ram for that specific model:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Archive-Read-Only/RAM-Upgrade/m-p/5226582#M1273967

And I don't know if need to do an specific action to update my version of bios, or maybe with my current version of bios can accept all 4gb of ram (currently I don't know where can I found the bios version).

I attach my laptop details:

Product: hp pavilion dv2000

p/n: RX557LA#ABM

OS: Windows 7

Currently RAM: 1 slot with the original 512mb memory, and 1 slot upgraded 10 years ago with 1gb haha lol.

I know this is a old laptop, but I installed a 128gb ssd, and the laptop runs very well!!, so I'm planning to upgrade my currently 1.5gb ram to 4gb (2gbx2).

Thank you!

Your HP Pavilion dv2225la Notebook PC

is listed as a "Retired Product": https://www.support.hp.com/ca-en/retired-products

Thus, all information about a possible BIOS upgrade to support more than 2GB has been removed from HP's web-site.

So, all you can do is to take your computer to a computer-store, and "test" a 2GB stick, replacing the 512MB stick, to see if your current BIOS can support 3GB - one 1GB stick & one 2GB stick.  If it works, buy the stick. If it does not work, do not buy the stick.

Note that 32-bit Windows 7 supports up to 3.2GB of RAM -- having 3.0GB is as "close" as you can get.

Upgrading to 4GB is a good idea. It will be quite difficult to find memory that is specifically compatible with your notebook. DDR2 memory is no longer manufactured.

Be aware that if you have a 32-bit version of a Windows OS installed, you will never be able to use all of the 4GB.

It won't matter what version of BIOS is installed. That is because of how the  32-bit operating system was designed. It is purposely limited to 4GB.  A 64-bit  version of Windows is different and does not have that limitation.

Your notebook is almost 12 years old.  It certainly has served you well.

From: HP Pavilion dv2225la Notebook PC - Product Specifications

Yes pretty certainly your laptop will run 3 gigs but not 4. The dv2500 and higher will do 4 but the lower model numbers do 3 and even that is unofficial....2 gigs is the official max..If you now have a 512 meg and a 1 gig you might be surprised how much better it runs even with a pair of 1 gig sticks...25% more memory and dual channel, to boot so it would be noticeable and very cheap.

Yes that's true!! I can try in a computer-store, and then I will confirm in this post, because maybe other users has the same doubt (I don't really believe it haha, because it's a 12 years old computer).

It's my first post, and I think if I accept a solution the post it will be closed/archived, so I will wait to accept a solution untill I test the 2gb stick (just with the purpose to leave my comment)

Thank you all!!
