Hello, I'm trying to upgrade my laptop's storage. Currently I have a 1tb HDD. Since, it's a CTO when I was buying the laptop I chose HDD instead of an SSD.
Can you please answer the following questions?
1) Can I upgrade my storage? (When I opened the back of my laptop, I found that there is an empty M.2 (with m-key) slot to add SSD, but I'd still like to confirm because I'm not sure if it works or not)
If I can,
2) How much can I add?
3) Is this port Nvme compatible?

Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
Chapter 1 has the supported drive types.
HP ENVY Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide
If your notebook has a M.2 slot, I assume you have the model with the Intel i7 processor and 4 GB discrete graphics memory.
You can install a M.2 SATA SSD, not NVMe.
If you want to go larger than 250 GB, that should not be a problem.
The storage capacities listed in the manual are just what HP offered in the model series.

Hey,
So you said that my laptop doesn't support NvMe but as I was going through the possible SATA drives I could buy, I saw all of them had B+M keys whereas the port in my laptop has only M key. Does that mean it is NvMe supported (because all the "only M key" SSD's available in the market are NvMe)?
Attached is the image of my M.2 port in my laptop.

Hey:
Every HP notebook and desktop PC that I know of has a M.2 slot that 'looks' like it will support a NVMe SSD.
That is why you have to read the service manual and see what type SSD HP indicates the slot will support.
Some support SATA only. Some support NVMe only, and some support both SATA and NVMe SSD's.
Since the manual for your notebook indicates that only SATA SSD's are supported, it would be quite a gamble for you to install a NVMe drive.
