HP ENVY 15
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi.

I have one laptop hp envy 15  i7-4712HQ 2.30GHz with HDD 750 Gb.

I tried upgrade my laptop to a SSD CRUCIAL MIX500, I did all process to do that, but in the process of cloning the last partition HP of Recovery from my HDD fail.

The ssd  after i clone  have all partitions of my HDD  but missing the partion of recovery hp from the hdd laptop.

Can you help whit this situation?

Do you know if i use a 1TB SDD will work in my laptop?

I search in internet some people say that most of hp envy only can do upgrade if you use the same space HHD/SSD, to upgrade to ssd.

Is true if you use 1 ssd with same or big capacity in the original HDD the cloning pocess work´s?

What can i do now?

Thanks,

Hope have some help in this problem.

You're very welcome.

That product number gives me this model, which came with Windows 10 and it has a much newer processor and chipset.

So, we are going to have to try this in the dark...

Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media, using another Windows PC, if yours is not working...You want W8.1 64 bit.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

Only if you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.

This is the generic key for W8.1 'standard.'

334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT

If you had to enter the generic key, manually change the generic product key to the W8 'standard' key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.

After you get W8.1 installed, and you had to manually enter the W8.1 generic product key, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.

I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or usb flash drive so it is bootable.

Then you can install the available drivers and software from your PC's support page.

If the showkey plus utility shows a W8.1 Single Language product key, then you will have to go back and download the W8.1 SIngle Language ISO file so the W8.1 Single Language product key will activate the installation.

Hi:

What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?

The product number can be found on the same label as the serial number.

Please do not post the serial number.

There is a way to clean install W8.1, and once you let me know the information I requested, I will give you the details, so at least you can enjoy your new SSD and have a working notebook.

OK. I understand what you say about install again the windows.

I didn´t put the ssd inside in the laptop because when I cloned in the last partition (hp recovery) fail, it means that if I plug in ssd in laptop will not reboot the system.

I still have that HDD in my laptop. I have windows 8.1 64bit.

I have the pen drive hp recovery.

My question is,

Is better format or reset ssd to factory state (using disk management) and doing again cloning with different program.

Or I can do it like format ssd and after I  will plugin  the ssd in the laptop and restart the laptop with usb hp recovery?

I don't care about the information I have in the hdd I did backup already.

Hi:

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with the cloning process.

I tried it a couple of times and wasn't successful.

One time I did it, and W10 still recognized the SSD as a mechanical hard drive, so it would not TRIM it.

I gave up and find it quicker and easier to clean install W10 and reinstall my files and programs.

I don't know how many hours you have spent on this project, but I wager that if you had clean installed W8.1 after the first go around, you would be back up and running by now.

Hi:

No need to apologize.

We all get busy doing other things...

First install the new SSD in the PC.

Then make the W8.1 installation media using the info I posted above.

If you know exactly what version of W8.1 your notebook came with (W8.1/W8.1 single language), select that version.

Boot from the W8.1 installation media and install W8.1.

To boot to the installation media, turn on the PC, tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to get the menu of options.  Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that, select the USB flash drive and press the enter key.

Yes, when you get to the part where the installer asks 'Where do you want to install Windows,' delete every partition on the SSD, leaving just one partition of unallocated space and install W8.1 on that partition.

Check to make sure it is activated.

i know my windows is 8.1 but do not know if is single language

how do i found that?

do i can select i diferent language or i have to put english standard?

HP Recommended

If you don't know what version it is now, and you still have the original hard drive installed, run the show key plus utility I provided in my first reply to see all the info regarding the version of Windows that is installed.

You can select any language you want.
